The CO2 Meter (Gehaltemeter)

Carbonation is one of beer’s most defining characteristics, and is thus a critical parameter to maintain in order to ensure a consistent product. The common, budget-friendly option is a manually shaken CO2 volume meter that uses the pressure and temperature of a shaken sample to determine the volumes of CO2 from a table. The more easily operated (but much more expense) option is a gehaltemeter, which uses an electric current to release carbon dioxide from solution. The temperature and pressure are then used to display the volumes of CO2.
