NOTE RRL(H)82: A New High α-Acid Hop. S. K. Bakshi, P. N. Jotshi, S. Kitchlu, and B. K. Bhat, Regional Research Laboratory (Branch), Srinagar 190 005, Kashmir, India. J. Am. Soc. Brew. Chem. 52:0035, 1994.
RRL(H)82 is a high α-acid hop cultivar selected from a cross between Hybrid-2 (female parent) and a male cultivar bearing accession no. Q57. The male, from Australia, showed luxuriant growth with ample lateral development. RRL(H)82 was tested as a single-nursery plant for four years (1981-1984). In a replicated trial (200 m2/plot) conducted from 1984 to 1989, it produced a calculated yield of 1,480 kg/ha. The content of α- and β-acids ranged from 13.4 to 16.8 and 6.6 to 8.8%, respectively. The cohumulone fraction in the α-acids was 19%. The essential oil, ranging from 1.3 to 1.8 ml/100 g, contains a high percentage of humulene. On the basis of the chemical analysis, RRL(H)82 was found to be a promising new hop cultivar.
