Screening of the Brewing Performance of New Yeast Strains. Poul Sigsgaard and Jan Nørager Rasmussen, Carlsberg Research Center, Gamle Carlsberg Vej 10, DK-2500 Valby, Copenhagen, Denmark. J. Am. Soc. Brew. Chem. 43:0104, 1985.

The possibilities in modern genetics for the construction of novel yeast strains have accentuated the need for fast screening methods to evaluate the brewing performance of these strains. Automated equipment with a total capacity of 60 2-L EBC-tube fermenters has been developed. The equipment is described and some results from the testing of new yeast strains are shown. The great capacity of the equipment allows simultaneous testing of a large number of yeast strains.
