Determination of Specific Gravity of Malt Extracts, Worts, and Beer. D. E. LaBerge, Grain Research Laboratory, Canadian Grain Commission, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3G9. J. Am. Soc. Brew. Chem. 37:0105, 1979.

Correlations were excellent between specific gravities of 104 malt extractions and 78 beer samples determined with a pycnometer and those determined with a digital density meter. Use of the digital density meter is promising. The method is more precise and productive than pycnometry and can be completely automated by adding a sampling device and a digital printout.
