Caloric Value of Beer. J. Raymond Helbert, Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53201. J. Am. Soc. Brew. Chem. 36:0066, 1978.

Analytical and computational considerations for estimating the caloric value of beer are reviewed with examples. The Atwater factors for the principal organic components of beer are also discussed. Finally, a caloric factor for ethanol is developed from thermodynamic considerations and compared with Atwater's empirical factor.
