How to Donate

Power in numbers, both large and small

It's your participation that matters most. When everyone joins the effort, even small contributions add up quickly. If your financial situation enables you to be more generous, wonderful! Please add ASBC to the annual list of charities to which you contribute, make a significant one-time donation, or start a scholarship in your name or on behalf of someone you would like to see honored. Whatever the level of your giving, your dedication and support of brewing science is what's appreciated. You are welcome to support the general endowment fund, or donate specifically to the Brian Williams Fund or the Graduate Student Travel Grant Program. Please join us as we work to make the ASBC Foundation a success.

We invite your participation

Join your colleagues by designating your donations in any of the following ways:

  • An unrestricted contribution in any amount to assist in the building of the general scholarship fund.
  • A contribution of $1,000 can create a one time scholarship named after you, your company, or on behalf of someone you would like to see honored.
  • A contribution of $20,000 can create a permanent annual $1,000 per year scholarship in your name or a name of your selection.
  • A bequest in your will to fund any one or more of the above alternatives.

Your contribution may be tax deductible. ASBC is a 501(c)(3) organization, qualified to accept tax-deductible contributions during donor lifetime or bequests by will. Consult your tax advisor on how the current law applies to you.

Double your contribution!
Use your company's matching gift program. Check with your company to determine whether contributions to the Foundation qualify for matching in view of its 501(c)(3) status and the fact that Foundation funds are used exclusively for student scholarships.

How YOU can personally give

Individuals are invited to support the ASBC Foundation in one of these ways:

Direct Donations
  • Cash - Gifts of cash (checks, money, money orders) are deductible from your taxable income in the year they are donated.
  • Securities - Gifts of securities are deductible at current market value. Donating appreciated securities avoids capital gains tax on the difference between the price you paid for the security and the market value at the time of the donation. Securities can be donated by mail, through your broker or by hand delivery to ASBC.
Deferred Donations
  • Life Insurance - By paying a small annual premium you can assure a large future gift by donating life insurance. Options include:
-- Purchasing a policy and making the Foundation the irrevocable owner and beneficiary.
-- Changing the primary beneficiary on an existing policy to name the ASBC Foundation to receive all or a portion of the proceeds.
-- Adding the Foundation as a contingent beneficiary, by which the Foundation receives a gift if your primary and secondary beneficiaries don't survive you.
-- Assigning annual dividends from policies to the Foundation; the value of the dividends would be tax deductible.
  • Bequests - A bequest or special gift made by will is a popular form of charitable donation. Bequests to a tax-exempt recipient, such as the ASBC Foundation, are not subject to estate tax and can reduce the tax liability for your heirs. You should consult with your attorney or financial advisor before including such provisions in your will.

How YOUR COMPANY can give

Companies are invited to support the ASBC Foundation in one of these ways:

Donations to the General Scholarship Endowment Fund
Contributions of any size may be made one time or pledged over a period of years to the general endowment fund. The aim is to provide a capital fund, from which investment earnings are available for general scholarships each year.

Provide a Named Scholarship Annually
Contributions of $1,000 or more can create a one-time scholarship named after your company, or as an honor to someone. Donations at this level may be made annually or on a one-time basis.

Permanent Endowment of a Named Scholarship
Contributors may endow a scholarship permanently by a one-time contribution of $20,000 per $1,000 scholarship to be awarded annually. At this level, donors may name the scholarship on behalf of their company or someone they would like to see honored.
