Recap of the ASBC Board of Directors' Fall Meeting
The ASBC Board of Directors met in Kansas City, MO, September 19–20, 2013, for our annual fall meeting. We have a well-rounded group of folks this year representing many different facets of our industry, including Chaz Benedict from Hach and a new international director, Roland Folz from VLB Berlin. Although Jeff Cornell just began his term as president, he was ready in full form, organized and excited to get some work done!
While the majority of the BOD agenda focused on strategic goals, we made some important and exciting decisions affecting membership and local meetings as well as how we participate at the annual Craft Brewers Conference.
Journal of the ASBC Editor's Pick: Novel and Quick Method for Measurement of Malt Color
Reliable malt analysis has long been key to controlled brewing. Some tests, however, can take quite a long time, as well as demand elaborate equipment. In their article, "Development of a Fast and Reliable Microwave-Based Assay for Measurement of Malt Color," Yin Li and Mary-Jane Maurice from Malteurop North America describe a novel and quick method for measurement of malt color in which mashing is simulated by microwave technology.
