Laboratory Check Sample for Mycotoxins

Laboratory Check Sample for Mycotoxins Available at Discounted Price for ASBC Members

With Fusarium head blight posing a real threat to the barley crop, ASBC members and others using or processing malt are concerned with the possible presence of deoxynivalenol (also known as DON or vomitoxin) in barley, malt, and brewed products. The American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC), which shares headquarters with ASBC, offers a quarterly check sample series for mycotoxins, designated as Series L in AACC 23 Check Sample series.

In Series L, samples of mixed ground grains are naturally (but heavily) contaminated with analyzable levels of aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, and fumonisin. Four different samples, varying in levels of contamination, are sent to subscribers on a quarterly basis.

ASBC members may subscribe to Series L for the AACC corporate member discounted price of only $475 annually (plus $45 additional airmail postage outside North America). To subscribe to Series L, contact ASBC headquarters.

Prescribed dates for submission of subscriber data are intended to provide sufficient time for completion of each series.

Details of analyses and references for recommended methods are indicated on worksheets that are e-mailed to subscribers.
