Check Sample Service

Accuracy and quality control in the laboratory are the principles on which the ASBC was founded as a scientific society. For more than 70 years, ASBC has aided malting and brewing laboratories in improving data accuracy and technical proficiency. The Check Sample Service offered by the ASBC provides subscribing members an opportunity to evaluate method accuracy and precision and instrument performance on a scheduled, regular basis. By comparing internal laboratory data to results from other laboratories around the world, a critical assessment of the analytical data generated by subscriber labs can be made and identification of areas for method improvement can be identified. The ASBC Check Sample program can be used as a means to ensure the accuracy of labeling information and adherence to regulatory requirements. ASBC Check Sample Service is an excellent tool by which subscribers can build confidence in the analytical data generated by their brewing scientists.

Participating laboratories rely on these services for a number of reasons, including:

  • Comparison of subscriber results with those of other industry laboratories
  • Checking of analysis proficiency of laboratory personnel within the same facility or corporate multi-site system
  • Monitoring of instrumentation and/or method performance
  • Benchmarking of best practices
  • Qualification of contract laboratories
  • Evaluation of alternative analytical methodologies
  • Enhancement of process control capabilities by providing an independent means to assure gauge-related contributions to data variability
